Car detailing questions about cost
The car detailing questions that come up first are almost always about money, so they go first here too.
How much does car detailing cost in NW London?
A Signature Wash starts at £50, an Interior Deep Clean with Exterior Wash at £170 and a Full Detail at £240. Prices rise by vehicle size — small, medium, large or XL — and the exact figure for your car shows before you pay. Interior only takes £20 off, paint protection starts at £130, and correction with a ceramic coating starts at £360. The full price list shows every combination.
Why is detailing more expensive than a hand car wash?
Because it is a different job. A £7 hand wash is fifteen minutes with shared brushes and one bucket, and it is where most swirl marks come from. A Signature Wash is two to three hours with snow foam, two buckets, fresh microfibres, a 1-month protective seal and a light clean inside. You are not paying for a cleaner car, you are paying for a car that is not being damaged while it is cleaned.
Do you charge for travel?
Not across the areas we cover — Wembley, Harrow, Brent, Kingsbury, Willesden, Ealing and the surrounding postcodes. Further out we may add a travel charge, but it is always agreed before you book, never added afterwards.
Do I pay a deposit?
Yes, £20 by card when you book. It secures the slot and comes off the final price. The balance is due on the day once the work is done.
How it works
Car detailing questions about the day itself
How long does it take?
A Signature Wash is two to three hours. An Interior Deep Clean is three to six. A Full Detail is five to eight hours, and correction with a ceramic coating is five to seven — or a full day for two-stage. Bigger cars take longer. We only book one car per slot, so nothing gets rushed to fit another job in.
Do you need my water or electricity?
No. We bring our own water and power, so nothing comes out of your house — no hose through a window, no cable across the hall.
Do I need a driveway?
No. We work at the kerb constantly, especially in NW10 and around Willesden and Harlesden where most houses have no driveway. All we need is enough room to open the doors and walk around the car — roughly a car’s width on one side.
Do I have to be there?
No. Once we have a key we can get on with it. Plenty of customers leave a key with a neighbour and come home to a finished car. If you are in a permit zone, mention it when you book so we can plan where the van sits.
What happens if it rains?
Light rain does not stop a wash. Heavy rain, ice or high winds can make some work unsafe or pointless — machine polishing and ceramic coatings especially need dry conditions. If the weather makes a job impossible we move it to the next available date at no charge and your deposit carries over.
Can you do it at my workplace?
Yes, as long as we can park legally next to the car and there is room to work. Plenty of jobs get done in office car parks while people are at their desks.

Car detailing questions about what is possible
Will detailing remove scratches?
Machine polishing removes swirl marks and light marks in the lacquer, and that is most of what people are actually seeing when paint looks dull or hazy. Anything you can feel with a fingernail has gone through the lacquer and needs paint repair, not detailing. We will tell you which you have got before you spend anything.
Can you get the smell out of my car?
Usually. Most car smells are bacteria in damp fabric, and shampooing plus hot extraction removes the source rather than covering it. Smoke and long-term pet odour are the two that sometimes need a second visit or an ozone treatment — we will say so honestly when we see the car.
Will you get every stain out?
Most of them. Ground-in dirt, spilled drinks, food, mud and pet mess almost always come out with shampoo and extraction. What will not come out is anything that has chemically changed the fabric — bleach, hair dye, some cleaning products — or dye transfer that has soaked into light leather. Cleaning makes those cleaner, not invisible.
Is a ceramic coating worth it?
If you keep your cars a few years, yes. It makes the paint far easier to clean, holds gloss and protects against sap, bird mess and UV. If you change cars every year on a lease, a cheaper paint refresh usually makes more sense. See the ceramic coating page for the honest comparison.
How often should my car be detailed?
A full detail once a year resets everything. Between those, a wash every two to four weeks keeps it there — weekly if the car lives under a tree or does the North Circular daily. Leave it much longer and sap and brake dust start doing damage that costs more to undo than to prevent.
Booking and membership
The rest of the car detailing questions
The last of the car detailing questions people ask before booking — mostly about timing, insurance and whether the membership is worth it.
How far ahead should I book?
Weekday mornings are usually available within a few days. Saturdays go a week or more ahead, and spring is the busiest time of year — as soon as the sun comes out everyone looks at their car at once.
Are you insured?
Yes, fully insured. If something is damaged through our negligence we put it right — that is what the insurance is for, and it is one of the real differences between a professional and a man with a bucket.
What is the membership, and is it worth it?
It is a monthly plan from £45 where we come to your driveway weekly, fortnightly or monthly, so the car is simply never dirty. It works out cheaper per visit than booking one-offs, and members get priority slots and a rate locked in. It is capped at 15 people so everyone can actually get the times they want. Details on the membership page.
Can you do two cars at the same address?
Yes, and it is cheaper than two separate visits because we are already set up. A second car mini wash starts at £30 when added to another booking.
Do you do vans, taxis and private hire cars?
Yes. Vans are priced in the XL band. Private hire and taxi work has its own page with monthly options, since those cars need doing far more often — see taxi and PHV cleaning.
I am selling my car. What should I book?
A Full Detail the day before your photos, in most cases. It is the cheapest money you will spend on a car you are about to sell — better photos, more enquiries and less haggling. There is a whole page on it: pre-sale detailing.
What if I am not happy with the work?
Tell me before you tell the internet. Message or call within 48 hours and I will come back and sort it wherever I reasonably can. I would much rather fix it than read about it.
Still got a question?
If your car detailing questions are not covered above, send a photo on WhatsApp and I will tell you what it needs, what it costs and what I honestly cannot fix.
